Rattlesnake Telemetry

The S2S team was able to assist the snake unit at Great Basin National Park. The team first began by locating the snakes using radio telemetry. Next, they conducted a thermal vegetation analysis where they assessed ground conditions, temperature, and terrain substrates to learn more about the habitats of each snake.

Colton and Madeline, the snake biologists, were excellent teachers, and they allowed the S2S team to observe and assist them as they performed surgery to remove and install telemetry tags and revive snakes in poor condition. After this, they worked together to use GPS to release the snakes where they were found. This research is incredibly rare and valuable to understanding one of the parks most important inhabitants.
