The Xerxes Society Bumble Bee Atlas with Amy Dolan
In preparation for their trip to Great Basin National Park, S2S reached out to the Xerxes Society about their Bumblebee Atlas initiative. Amy Dolan, the Bumble Bee Atlas Mountain State Coordinator, met with S2S and planned to connect during the expedition. Amy met with the team at Great Basin, presented an educational workshop, and taught the team about the Bumblebee Atlas Survey Protocol. Everyone learned more about pollinators, their natural habitats, and the various species one might encounter at Great Basin as well as those to be found on the East Coast of the US. The S2S team conducted the Bumble Bee Atlas Survey, and afterwards Amy enjoyed dinner with the team. S2S was also able to introduce Amy to Brian Hamilton, the park supervisor, to establish a relationship between the park and the Bumblebee Atlas. Brian was excited to collaborate with Amy to organize a BioBlitz for the Spring of next year. Amy was excited about S2S's efforts to facilitate veteran participation in Citizen Science.
