Lehman’s Cave Tour

Great Basin National Park provided the S2S team with complimentary tickets to tour Lehman’s Cave. It is the longest cave system in the state of Nevada, and tours have been offered since 1885. It has been used at times as a roller skating rink, a prohibition speakeasy, and a wedding hall. These caves have been forming for millions of years, and they were established as a national monument in 1922. There is evidence the caves were used as a burial ground by prehistoric Native Americans. At Great Basin National Park, scientists work to maintain the caves, and there are strict rules about not touching the cave walls to avoid leaving oils which could affect the flow of water and prevent the natural formation of the caves. The S2S team was stunned by their beauty and history, and truly enjoyed the opportunity to explore them.
