Great Basin, an International Dark Sky Park
Great Basin National Park is known for its incredibly dark evening skies. It is officially recognized as an international dark sky park, and this means the park is kept free from artificial light pollution. It is also the only national park to have its own observatory. The S2S team was privileged to camp under the stars each night and had the opportunity to view millions of stars without the problem of light pollution. It is amazing to think that much of the world’s population is unable to ever see stars of this magnitude, and the team cherished the chance to view the skies each night.
