S2S bands American Kestrels and Barn Owls in Shenandoah Raptor Study Area

The team banding an American Kestrel Chick in the Shenandoah Raptor Study Area

Alex Schwar joined up with master banders Lance and Jill Morrow to band American Kestrel chicks at the Shenandoah Raptor Study Area. For decades, Lance and Jill have been banding American Kestrels and monitoring the movements and habitats. They have published many studies to document their work, and S2S is excited to partner with them to help rejuvenate the Kestrel nest box network at Manassas Battlefield Park and the Shenandoah Raptor Study Area. S2S is currently seeking funding to help repair and replace the boxes in the network and hopes to make repairs in preparation for the breeding season in 2025.
