S2S conducts Gopher Tortoise Telemetry with Polk County Parks and Natural Resources
S2S team member Adrian Stebbins went out with Polk County Parks and Natural Resources to conduct a Gopher Tortoise in Lakeland, Florida. Using telemetry equipment, Adrian worked with Polk officials and other volunteers to locate Gopher Tortoises on the property and record their positions. During the project, most Gopher Tortoises were in their burrows, but this work helps Polk keep track of the Gopher Tortoises, their new burrows, and their general well-being. This project is one among many citizen science projects available at Polk County Parks and Natural Resources. If you are interested in getting involved at Polk, they are in need of more volunteers for their projects including nest box work and Eagle Watch! Contact S2S and we can help you get involved with the important work being done by Polk County Parks and Natural Resources!
