S2S delivers and installs nest boxes at Manassas Battlefield Park during National Public Lands Day

S2S Executive Director Michael Cohn attended National Public Lands Day at Manassas Battlefield Park in Virginia. This was an important celebration of all the work done at Manassas and a large group of volunteers attended to take part in various activities at the park. Mike was also able to deliver S2Sā€™s first batch of nest boxes for the Great American Kestrel Project. Working with Corinne Hagan, Mike was able to construct a few extra boxes while installing numerous boxes at locations throughout the park. Corrinne, a master falconer and birding expert, assisted Mike with identifying the best places for the boxes, and the team got to work installing them throughout the park. As a result of their work, nearly all of the nest boxes at Manassas have been replaced and refurbished, and the coordinates of each box have been mapped to ensure the new network can be properly monitored. More boxes will be delivered in the coming months to assist Lance and Jill Morrow in replacing boxes at the Shenandoah Raptor Study Area. This is such an exciting project, and S2S looks forward to completing its deliveries and getting ready for the upcoming American Kestrel breeding season!
