S2S observes and documents a Controlled Burn performed at Hempstead Plains Preserve!

Technicians monitoring and managing the progress of the controlled burn!

S2S Executive Director Michael Cohn joined community stakeholders at Hempstead Plains Preserve as they observed a controlled burn on the property. A total of 9 acres were burned during the process; the main objective of the burn was the removal of invasive plants in order to rejuvenate the grassland space for native species. S2S recently joined the community managing Hempstead Plains Preserve to care for their American Kestrel and Tree Swallow nest box network on the land. This was an important step in protecting the habitat, and S2S was excited to participate!
